Heading to Wyoming!

Heading to Wyoming!

I love wildlife photography but there are some limitations when you live in Florida. We have a great state for birding and bird photography, and we practically trip over alligators leaving the house. Of course we have raccoons, squirrels, opossums, iquanas and the regular run-of-the-mill critters but we lack some of the bigger animals that we see in the northern states. Oh yeah, we have some brown bears, deer and the occasional Florida panther we lack some of the cooler stuff.

So, several months ago, my wife and I booked 7 days at The Lodge at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This is a luxury resort in downtown Jackson Hole and a stones throw away from some of the best wildlife photography in the country. The good news is that my sister and her husband are going as well as another couple we travel with often. Why is that good news? Because, they can keep my wife occupied (she likes them better anyway. I’m a grumpy traveler) while I stomp around the woods with a big lens. bison, elk, deer, wolves, and bears, oh my!

We leave at the end of April and we’re driving across country. All in all, we’ll be on the road for about three weeks. Hopefully my wife will still be speaking to me when we get home

In anticipation of photographing wildlife, I’ve been binging wildlife photography videos on YouTube and came across a channel I quite liked. The channel is run by Steve Mattheis, a professional photographer living and working in Wyoming. His videos are well thought out and executed providing beginner and experienced photographers with great information. If your interested in wildlife photography, I suggest you check out his channel.

Hopefully I’ll have a lot more wildlife photos to post here once we return.
